Starting Our New Website by Frank R.,
Saturday Nite Live Group, Cheyenne, WY

At our July 1st ASC meeting, it was suggested that a website would be a great way to publish our "newsletter", and post meeting schedules, events, and recovery-related items submitted by members. Many NA service committees and NA groups are using the Internet in this manner, and the vote of those present was for me to explore this possibility.

My name is Frank R., I am GSR of the Saturday Nite Live Group in Cheyenne. For the last year or so, I have been building websites commercially. I would be thrilled to help build one for the Wyo-Braska Area Service Committee, but I feel it necessary to point a few things out before we vote on whether or not to have one.

NA World Services has some strict guidelines if this site is to be a legitimate "Fellowship- Approved" NA Website. They will not link to us if we are not careful about complying with NA Guidelines . The NAWS webmaster, Steve S., was nice enough to email me recently. He has been very helpful, and has offered to look over our site when we're ready, and link to us. While renegade (non-conforming) sites do exist, I think such non-compliance would defeat our purposes. Let's go the NA Way!

The use of "free" web-hosting services is discouraged. Most "free" services contain various types of advertising, banners, and lengthy URL add-ons (example: www.JoesFreeHosting.com/WyoBraskaNA). So it's my opinion that using a "free" hosting service conflicts with the 6th and 7th traditions. I have had good experiences using SISNA hosting, at only $10/month ($50 setup). The domain names "www.WyoBraskaNA.org" and "www.Wyo-BraskaNA.org" are both currently available.

Other than the Fellowship logo, NAWS doesn't want sites to use any of their copyrighted material, but we MAY link to pages on their site. This does not represent a problem, but I will point out that copyright infringement runs rampant on the Internet and I'd hate to have us be a part of it. SO, any submissions (writting or artwork) would have to be done with the owner's consent.

This temporary mock-up will be posted on my personal server during July and August. Please give it a look-over. Our next ASC meeting is at the Unity Days Camp-Out, and we can discuss things like layout and content if we do in fact vote to have a website. Revisions can be made during August, and by the way... does "WyoBraska" have a dash? (Wyo-Braska?).

There is a form on the "Contact Us" page for submitting any comments or suggestions that you may have regarding this website.

Thank you,
Frank R.
